Your business card plays the major role in landing a new client. Without it, they are not likely to remember you or bother to look you up. It serves as a mini resume.
Your business card also needs to grab attention. It seems most cards have been growing in size in order to compete for that attention. Everyone wants a leg-up on being noticed.
It’s time to buck that trend and go half size. The standard is 2 by 3.5 inches. The mini business cards are usually 1.12 by 2.75 inches.
Why you’d want some mini business cards:
- They stand out as definitely noticeable, and lighten the mood upon receipt.
- The aspect ratio capitalizes on the ‘widescreen’ trend. Who wants to watch a 3:4 TV anymore? Laptops, BlackBerries, iPhones and even Nav systems had to be made widescreen in order to sell. In addition, you can put a twist in this trend by printing yours portrait on one or both sides.
- When people stack things, they put the smaller ones on top. If your potential client keeps a stack of business cards on his desk, yours will likely be on top.
- Smaller cards in a wallet pocket will also tend to be put in front for ease of viewing.
- They take up less space, and so people are more likely to keep them longer in their wallets.
- They are the perfect size to attach as a gift card, or for flowers.
- They might just get used as a bookmark.
Some reasons you may not want to try them:
- They are trendy, and may be out of style soon.
- If your business is staunchly conservative-professional, you may need to stick with the standard size.
- They can be slightly more expensive than the standard, due to lower volumes, even though they use half the ink and paper.
There are several suppliers that offer on-line ordering. Prices can range from 1.5 to 18 cents each depending on the quality and quantity ordered, but normally they are 5 to 8 cents each.
